Nalban, the unique aquatic joint with its placid waters and rows of shady trees under the vast expanse of the welkin above. It has come up adjacent to Nicco Park in a close proximity to E.M. Bypass. The sprawling waters of Nalban covering about 400 acres, was used for pisciculture in the past. Today, these vast stretches ofwaters have been revamped as a wonderful boating complex. However, pisciculture still continues, though in a limited scale.

Nalban can be visited on any week day as well as holidays from 9:00 am. to 8:00 pm. Apart from the waters meant for boating, there are several adjacent ditches which make it lock enormous almost akin to a river. Several types of boats are available in Nalban for rides. There are paddle boats, boats fitted with oars, motor-boats etc. The duration of each ride is generally half an hour. The number of seats in each boat varies and the rates differ accordingly.

To enhance the beauty of this picturesque location, a few colourful cottages with thatched roofs have been built here. A few scaffoldings have been erected by the side of the waters for better viewing. During a drizzle, the highly imaginative souls will surely get electrified while resting inside the cottage or on the scaffolding and fantasize of getting marooned in an island surrounded by water. The fresh air and the ambience will arouse your hunger. There is nothing to worry as you'll find adequate arrangements for snacks, confectioneries and beverages near at hand to fill your maws and quench your thirst.

Indeed, Nalban is fast becoming a favourite jaunt for the Calcuttans. One need not feel insecure in this desolate place far away from the din and bustle of the city because tall and brawny security guards are always keeping a vigil on the movement of everybody around. Some portions of Nalban are even rented for holding social functions like wedding ceremonies. But it's a costly affair and can along be afforded by the opulent men.

It is not cumbersome to reach ‘Nalban Boating Complex' as it is situated just adjacent to the renowned Nicco Park, one of the proud possessions of modern Calcutta. There are plenty of buses and cabs which travel from here to all parts of the city.
