The Government is already in possession of 107 hectares of land. Further more 300 hectares of land is being acquired for future expansion of Science City & related projects.
SPACE STATION 3D is the story of this unique partnership of 16 nations building a laboratory in outer space -a permanent facility for the study of the effects of long-duration exposure to zero gravity and the necessary first step towards the global co-operative effort needed if man is to someday set foot on Mars. It is a story of challenges, setbacks and triumphs and ultimately, the shared international victory of men and women whose dreams exceed the limits of life on this Earth.
Hall of Science
With a new breed of working exhibits, visitors would discover science by themselves in the Hall of Sciences at the Gujarat Science City. They will turn handles, press buttons, look through peepholes, perform fascinating experiments and be amazed at their own capability of making things work.
This is a place that does not have a display please don't touch. This new exhibit hall in the Science City urges the visitors to touch and manipulate the exhibits to their liking.
The Aquamobil is a kinetic water sculpture in which colourful water plays with water wheels, turbines, dancing dolls; makes a giant water lens, sounds musical chimes and gongs, generates electricity, and operates bubblers and fountains to demonstrate basic laws of fluids. A hot air balloon soars up when heated, you can paddle a bicycle to float a ball in air, control a floating ball in air like an aeroplane and operate a pneumatic mail from one point to the other.
In the new exhibit hall, mathematics is all fun, pendulum is a moving beauty creating different kinds of motions and patterns, and mirrors create magic. You can cut off your head and offer to others on a silver platter. You can fly in air, and get mixed up with your friend like ardhanarishwar (half man and half woman). But the real magic is seen in a demonstration lecture on Magic of Chemistry and Kitchen Chemistry. Here you will understand that half of magic is done by tricks, and the other half by hard core science. You can learn to be a good magician here.
30 Seater Simulator: Ride Simulations provides the experience of riding a roller coaster, flying in an aerobatic aircraft, a journey into space and many more. Experiences more intense and exciting than the original (and with out risk). It all happens in a self-contained capsule that can be put almost anywhere. And it earns.
Ride Films like Star war, A journey in to a Volcano and Time gate to Egypt (a journey through the pyramids of Egypt) gives educational value as well as entertainment to visitors. The popularity of ride simulation is the top of attraction all over the world. Every body that experiences the ride simulation remembers for long. This may be able to accommodate 30 visitors at a time.
Promising to be a major crowd puller in Ahmedabad as well as other parts of the state and the country, the musical fountain will provide an experience of the magical world of light, sound and water; where technology fuses with fantasy.
The musical fountain in the Science City will provide the most beautiful nighttime entertainment. The water effects move or dance with music and interpret each tune in synchronization with light and sound whether fast or slow.
Spread over an area of 9000 Sq.m in hexagonal grid pattern, the Musical Fountain at science city is claimed to be the Asia's largest one. The pool of the fountain is rectangular shaped and covers an area of 1300 square meters. It employs 113 jets, 935 underwater colour lights, 4 submericible heavy duty pms, 2073 sets of hydraulic nozzles with 273 effects. The lotus water volume in the center can be as high as 30 meters. It has more than 20 kinds of water styles including floating fountain, seagulls, chasing waves, peacocks, swinging, flower baskets.
The sound system is really fantastic. With 4000 watt surround sound system, the music will be aired by 20 speakers well equipped with graphic equalizer to provide digital sound with highest quality.
The programs on musical fountain will fully controlled by a computer software programs IN COMMAND, which has been specifically written for this purpose. Once the pms and the other equipments are switched on, the operation will be totally controlled by a single computer.
While the visitors will be in the dream fountain, they will also learn about the science behind the musical fountain like principles of acoustic, water treatment processes, light-water synchronization, Bourneli's principles, types of water flow and water dynamics, rainbow and many more.
The total cost involvement in the musical fountain is Rs. 330 lakh. It will be a new attraction to the Science City and will be a new evening time edutainment asset to the visitors of all kinds. It will operate 2 to 3 shows daily for 20 minutes each in the evening. The invitation ticket has been fixed as Rs. 20/per person.
It is easy for the audience of the Musical Fountain to marvel in the display of water and lights, and listen to the music lofting over the harbor as the sun is setting behind the dunes and many little thoughts may go into the science of water, light and sound to inspire the young minds.
Energy Park
State Level Energy Education Park (SEEP), spreading over a hexagonal grid pattern area measuring 9000 sq.m is being developed at the Gujarat Science City. Gujarat Science City has received a financial assistance from the Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Sources (MNES) and the work has been executed in association with Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA).
Along with sun, it was the air, which showed man its power. Even before the solar energy, it was the wind energy that man used for his work. Initially, it was used in two main ways; to drive wind mills on land and to drive sailing vessels at sea. The first use of windmills were to grind foods grains and to run pms to irrigate. Now with the advancement of science and technology, we have windmills generating electricity. Naturally, now this energy can be used for many more works.
Wind Mill pm
Here the rotating blades of the windmill give vertical movement to the rod. This rod acts like the rod of hand pm and lifts water from the tank. It can be used for any purpose. Right from water for irrigation to pming water for other uses.
Wind Turbine
Here the rotating blades of the windmill generate electricity through the rotary motion of the generator. This generator is fitted at the top of the mill near the blades. The electricity passes to the control house. Here in this model, series of electric bulbs glow whenever there is windmill generated electricity.
Geo Thermal Energy-Power From The Depths
Hot water springs are the best examples of the Geo thermal energy. Many of us have direct experience of this energy from beneath the surface of the earth. The earth's centre is 6400 km deep. How hot is this region ? Our best guess is 4000 degree C. Heat is constantly flowing from earth's interior to surface. The steam energy from under the surface of earth provides over 44 billion kilo watt hour of electricity world wide per year.
To produce electric power from geo thermal resources, under ground reservoirs of steam Or hot water are tapped by wells and the steam rotates turbines that generate electricity in India, the geological survey of India has already identified more than 350 hot springs sites which can be explored as areas to top geo thermal energy.
This interactive model shows the use of geo thermal energy.
Tidal Power Generator
Tides and ebbs can run turbines to generate electricity . But for this there should be a minimum difference of 15 feet between high tide and low tide or ebb. The water high tide Turns wheels of turbine while going and receding water of low tide also turn the wheels. This movement generates electricity. In a little more than 24 hours we have four Tides and ebbs.
However, there are only 40 sites on the earth with tidal ranges of this magnitude. This model shows the use of tidal energy to generate electricity. France's La Rance station is the only industrial-sized tidal power station in the world which produces 240 MW of power.
OCean Thermal Energy Converter
Different layer of sea have different temperature. This difference in temperature is used to generate electricity through ocean thermal energy converter. However, it works best when difference between the warmer, top layer of the ocean and the colder, deep ocean water is about 20degree C. The idea was first floted by Jacques Arsene d'Avsonaval a French physicist in 1881.But first plant has built by his student George Claude in cuba in 1930. It produced 22KW of electricity with a low pressure turbine. Here is an interactive exhibit of OTEC plant.
Wave Power Generation
Wind energy creates ocean waves. Each wave can travel a long distance without losing much energy. Strong steady winds produce waves that travel up to 56 miles per hour.
This energy of waves is be used to move turbines which generates electricity. Experts estimate that wave energy has potential to provide up to 10% of the world's electricity.
The only problem is to keep the structure intact in the sea. Despite that there are many wave power plants in the world.
In this interactive exhibit you can generate wave in the pool of water which in turn generate electricity. You can witness the result of your own efforts .
Solar House
Generally people think that though solar energy is cheap it has limited use and it is not convenient to use. However, recent advances in technology have made use of solar energy easy and cheap. In both forms, thermal and electrical form. Here, in this solar Hut, right from kitchen tap to T. V. and refrigerator all are run on solar energy. Series of batteries store electrical energy generated by panel of PV cells at the roof top .
Solar water heating system , solar still kept out side take care of need for water in the house. While solar lantern provides emergency light. Do not worry, solar energy has no transmission problem.
Beautiful science inspires artists, is a description by Ivan Noble. With this concept Science City constructed a 1500 seat Amphitheatre for organizing programs like science drama, miracles and magic shows and other entertainment programmes. With little imagination, students and community members can create an environment where the facts and figures of science combine with the excitement, emotion and energy of the theatre.
